A common treatment for the common male sexual dysfunction in men — and a new treatment for women — has been to try a pill for women, a new study suggests.

The drug Viagra for women, also called Addyi, is approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men. It's a pill that increases the blood flow to the penis, helping men with the condition, and a treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

The new study, published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, was conducted at the Cleveland Clinic's Center for Sexual Medicine. It looked at 79 patients with erectile dysfunction who took the drug for at least six months.

"Women, of all sexual partners, experience the most common symptoms of erectile dysfunction," said Dr. Emily Carter, clinical professor of urology at the Cleveland Clinic. "They are the most commonly affected female patients."

The study also looked at a group of patients who took a placebo. The women were randomly assigned to take Viagra, a generic version of the drug. The drug's active ingredient is sildenafil, a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. Viagra is available as an oral pill or a pill-on-a-tablet and can be taken by mouth, but the pill can be taken with or without food.

"We found that Viagra was effective and safe in the treatment of erectile dysfunction," said Dr. John P. Gagnon, chair of the U. National Institutes of Health, in a statement.

For women, the use of Viagra has been linked to a decrease in the incidence of a form of prostatic hyperplasia, also known as BPH.

Men taking the pill also reported increased sexual desire and a feeling of sexual satisfaction.

When used on a daily basis, Viagra can have a positive impact on sexual desire, sexual function, and overall sexual satisfaction.

"When men get to know the symptoms of a condition like erectile dysfunction, the sexual desire and function of the men is significantly impacted, so it's very important for them to be aware of their symptoms," Dr. Gagnon said.

The new study was conducted by the Cleveland Clinic's Center for Sexual Medicine.

The team looked at the data from the study and found that women who took Viagra had a lower incidence of the condition, which is referred to as BPH, when compared to those who took the placebo. A small study found that patients taking Viagra had fewer days of erections than those taking placebo.

"In the first study, we had the results from Viagra as early as three to four weeks after the start of the treatment, and that was enough to see that there were no significant differences between the groups," said Dr. P. L. Bumiller, associate professor in the department of urology at the Cleveland Clinic.

"The reason for that is because of the longer duration of the effect of Viagra and because of the higher risk of side effects."

Although the overall effect of Viagra on men with erectile dysfunction was small, there was also a small number of patients who took it on a daily basis, said Dr. Gagnon. The drug is available in pill-on-a-tablet forms, and it's best taken with food or on an empty stomach.

The new study also found that men who took the pill had lower rates of sexual satisfaction and fewer days of erections compared to those who took the placebo. Those who took the pill also reported less constipation, loss of appetite, headache, and fatigue.

"This study shows that the use of Viagra can have a positive impact on men's sexual health," said Dr. "Men who take Viagra are more likely to experience erectile dysfunction and BPH and it should not be ignored."

In addition, Dr. Carter and her colleagues found that women who took the pill had a lower incidence of BPH when compared to those who took the placebo. She noted that the women were taking Viagra on an empty stomach.

The study is the latest effort by the Cleveland Clinic to study the use of Viagra to treat male sexual dysfunction.

In the new study, the researchers used a combination of data from the U. Food and Drug Administration and a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to evaluate whether the use of Viagra was associated with a reduction in the risk of BPH.
